Art at the Duchess with Lyn Kirkland - 30 October to 30 November
Exploring the exciting properties of encaustic beeswax has been my passion for several years. First used by Ancient Egyptians as a painting medium, it saw a resurgence last century and has continued to flourish. Still relatively unknown in Europe, but once discovered, never forgotten. When I first took up my brush and dipped it into molten wax and pigment I knew I was hooked! My work is very much process driven. I am intent on pushing the medium as much as I can to develop texture, create a narrative with collaged items, and explore the translucence of this ancient medium. I move between abstraction and realism, taking my lead from the organic nature of the wax. The way it describes movement, colour and marks both within and on the surface is so exciting. I have been teaching and promoting encaustic wax for over ten years, working from my studio space at St George’s Studios on Portland, Dorset. I am a member of the International Encaustic Artists (IEA) group and very recently attended an encaustic painting retreat in Ireland, with other IEA members. Meeting my ‘tribe’ of like-minded artists has refreshed my soul and inspired my art.

Poundbury Christmas Market - Saturday 2nd December
We are pleased to announce that this year's Poundbury Christmas Market will be held at Crown Square on Saturday 2nd December, between 10:00am and 4:00pm. Come along and enjoy the 100 stalls of Gifts, Food, Drinks and Local Crafts as a great preparation for the big day on 25th! The Market is a not-for-profit event, with funds received from the stall holders off-setting the insurance and marketing. Any surplus contributes towards the Market the following year. Morrish Homes are again sponsoring the Christmas Tree for the Square and Zero C are sponsoring the music and entertainment. Friday 1st December - At 6pm, Damers School and Prince of Wales School will be singing to the Poundbury Community. They will then join forces to sing we wish you a Merry Christmas once the Christmas tree lights have been turned on around 6.45. This was a great event last year and promises to be even better this year! Please note there will be a need for road closures from 17:30 Friday 1st December to 18:00 Saturday 2nd December. As soon as everyone has left on the Saturday, the roads will reopen. The road closures are designed to minimise inconvenience and have been carefully planned to maintain alternative access routes.
  • We only ask that vehicles are removed from outside the businesses during these times.
  • All stall holder vehicles will be directed to non-residential parking spaces on the day.
  • Stall holders arrive from 07:00 on the Saturday, ready for a 10:00 start.
  • All rubbish is removed on the day and this year we have invested in commercial bins.
Also, the organisers are still looking for some volunteers to help with traffic management.  If anyone could spare a few hours please give Jon a call on 07810 774716
