The Love Poundbury Team think that physical noticeboards are even more important in a digital age, when so many of us get our news and views from online sources which increasingly divide us and doesn’t reach everyone. Physical boards can be seen by everyone, including those who are not regularly online. They help to create a visual sense of community in a locality. They can encourage us to engage digitally too – everything we get on a poster also gets put online.
We’ve found most of us don’t know where the existing boards are – they are not obvious! We also have newer areas of Poundbury which are not well served.
We’ve agreed with the Duchy to take over the second side of the big map boards of Poundbury for community notices. These are at Victor Jackson Square, Peverell Avenue West and Mansell Square. New boards with an updated map and community news are being planned for The Great Field, Crown Square and Pummery Square. We are already updating the board in The Buttermarket. Existing timber boards near Pummery Square and Victor Jackson Square will be remove and reused, and the board outside Waitrose will continue.
We’ve a growing team of local volunteers to keep the boards, website and social media up to date. By using all these channels we hope to ensure all sections of our community feel more connected. For more information, or to find out how to submit a poster for the boards, contact us – or you can submit news and events online.
