Dorchester Town Council is very pleased to have completed the lease transfer for the Great Field site. The Duchy of Cornwall has a repairing-and-fault obligation for 12 months on structures and fittings, 24 months on the trees, and maintenance of landscaping for 12 months. Town Council staff and Councillors work closely with the Duchy to maintain standards. The Town Council empty the play area litter bins daily, usually in the morning. The wooden bins placed elsewhere have been popular so the Town Council has installed enlarged versions for higher volumes of litter and dog waste. Users ought to take litter and dog waste home if a bin on site is full and not deposit waste around the bins. Birds pulling waste from bins are a problem so, after a successful trial, plastic screens will be fitted to prevent this. (The bins bordering the footpath by Melrose Court and by St John Way belong to Dorset Council, not the Town Council.) Signs will be erected at the play area entrance ways to remind everyone that this is a “no dog area” and also to be considerate to local residents of out-of-hours noise. Do please contact your Poundbury Ward Councillors with any suggestions or concerns you might have about this area. Contact details here. |
