Funded by the Duchy of Cornwall as an integral part of its development of the Great Field, the long-awaited Great Play area is now open! There is a wide range of timber play equipment, complemented by extensive planted areas, benches and bins.
The play area, alongside the Amphitheatre, which opened a day earlier, is part of the Duchy’s commitment to provide community facilities in Poundbury under the terms of the Planning Consent granted by the Council.
The Amphitheatre has been part funded by a bequest from late Poundbury resident Pamela Lock. The bequest was given to Love Poundbury to use for the benefit of all Poundbury residents. After an extensive consultation, Love Poundbury decided, with the blessing of the family, that a contribution to the construction of the Amphitheatre would be an appropriate use of the bequest. An inscribed stone memorial plaque will be incorporated acknowledging Mrs. Lock’s generous bequest.
The Great Field and the play area will become the responsibility of Dorchester Town Council once complete.
