Volunteers wanted 9th & 10th April at The Old Dorset Cereals Factory in Poundbury to help Ukrainian refugee children.
PACKED WITH HOPE seeks to provide a little comfort, and to put a smile back on the face of children (even momentarily) as they flee the violence and chaos in Ukraine.
With such terrible disruption to the familiar places, people, and routine of their lives, we are hoping to offer just a little comfort and escape, especially as they try to settle for bedtime, by providing Packed with Hope backpacks to the children arriving from Ukraine into Romania. Every one of the 10,000 backpacks will contain a selection of age-appropriate books (story, educational, picture and activity) accessible to children for whom English is not their first language.
They will also be filled with a selection of other items that are both comforting and essential, such as head torches, notepads, colouring pencils, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, puzzles, playing cards, bags of marbles, hot water bottles, socks, hats, scarfs, gloves, reusable drinking bottles, and many other much-needed things.
We need a lot of help to fill 10,000 backpacks – circa 60 volunteers on both Saturday 9th April and Sunday 10th April, at The Old Dorset Cereals Factory, Poundbury. We are asking volunteers to fill the backpacks, which will mean a lot of walking in an organised pattern collecting the items set out in the factory. There will be lots of coffee/tea breaks.
Please register your interest to volunteer@packedwithhope.org, letting us know if you can help on either or both days, and stating whether you are available to help for:
– the whole day (0930 to 1700)
– the morning (0930 to 1330)
– the afternoon (1300 to 1700)
Further details will be sent to those who register their interest. If you are not able to volunteer, you can still donate here.
Thank you so much for your support.
