Poundbury community, it’s time to get on board and enjoy the convenience of your local bus services! With reliable routes, affordable fares, and an eco-friendly way to travel, the bus network in Poundbury has never been better.
Key Routes and Stops
Poundbury is served by a great selection of bus services:
The Number 10 runs all day at 15-minute intervals, connecting Poundbury to the town centre and then onward to Weymouth. Ideal for quick and frequent trips!
The Number 6 operates every 30 minutes from Poundbury, with services running between 8:45 AM and 5:15 PM, Monday to Saturday.
The Number 1 runs every hour 10am-4pm, Monday to Friday, from Mansell Square to town via the industrial estate.
The X51 is great option for longer journeys. With seven services a day from Queen Mother Square, this route heads to Bridport, and four of these continue to Axminster for extended travel. The X51 also now serves Martinstown.
Affordable and Accessible Travel
One of the biggest benefits of using the bus in Poundbury is its affordability. The cost is capped at £3 maximum per ride, which makes it a budget-friendly way to get around.
Free Bus Passes are available for those over the state pension age of 66, and can be used anywhere in England after 9:30 AM. To apply, visit the Dorset Council website or call them 0300 330 1201 from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) and they will post a form to you.
Dogs Ride Free! Many residents enjoy walking their dogs into town and taking the bus home. It’s a great way to combine convenience and exercise for both you and your furry friend.
Why Use the Bus?
Taking the bus isn’t just convenient; it’s also a greener choice. By reducing the number of car journeys, the buses in Poundbury help cut down on emissions, improve air quality, and ease traffic congestion. Plus, it’s a relaxed way to get around, with friendly drivers and modern vehicles ensuring a comfortable ride.
Councillor William Gibbons, a long-time champion of Poundbury’s bus services, said, “Can we use the buses more rather than driving? The answer is a resounding, yes! Poundbury is well served by bus with six or more departures per hour to the centre of Dorchester between 9 and 5 Monday to Saturday. If we do not use them we might lose them.”
