Members of the PRA committee travelled to Nansledan last Sunday to see how the development is progressing. We were shown around by committee members of the Nansledan Community Association and had many interesting discussions about the respective developments. The NCA were interested to hear about the Big Poundbury Conversation as they also plan to survey their residents and were pleased to learn from our surveying experiences so far.
There were some interesting differences that we observed in terms of design such as the proposed high street – to be called Market Street – where many businesses will be based. There are also block pavements with no gravel, a range of materials and colours, embedding of some solar panels in roofs and Beryl e-bike sharing.
We also noted some common issues such as challenges on finishes and sustainability. All of this makes for an interesting and beneficial continuing joint relationship.
This visit has made us appreciate even more the work and dedication of the first PRA committee members who took our embryonic beginnings to the organisation we are today. It brought a wry smile to our faces as we listened to their debates over who should buy the much needed benches, whereas we struggle to find out who owns our worn out benches and needs to maintain them!
As Nansledan grows – to twice the size of Poundbury – their committee will encounter many challenges. We look forward to developing a long-term mutually supportive relationship between PRA and NCA as we share many similarities as communities comprising residents, businesses, developers, The Duchy and the Town Council.
We would like to say a big thank you to Suzanne (Chair), Janice (Vice Chair) and Tatiana (Environment Officer) from the NCA. Also thank you to Theresa (Events) who has been liaising with us remotely. We look forward to welcoming them and the rest of their committee members to Poundbury in the near future.
Enjoy the photos!
