The Conversation is off and running and so far we have had 222 replies to the survey, a further 17 interviews and 50 expansive emails – so people seem to be engaged! The survey will run until the end of August so if you haven’t completed it, please do this soon. It is so valuable to understand the strength of view across all residents irrespective of whether you rent or you own. Also to have a view from those who work here.
Here are some highlights:
- So far 45% of respondents are over 65, 25% between 55-64, 13% are between 35-44 but only 6% are under 34 so e would really like to hear from younger residents. 75% of respondents own in Poundbury so we want to hear more from those who are renting
- There is general appreciation and happiness about being here. Nice safe environment, good access to shops and services, attractive buildings, good neighbours and range of groups and activities
- There are concerns about road safety including parking and road speeds along with some anti social behaviour
- There are concerns about the finishing of some of the construction ( state of rendering, gravel paths, state of windows)
- There is a desire for more events to connect members of the community giving more attention to younger members of the community
- There is a desire to make Poundbury more environmentally friendly ( use of alternative energy, solar panels and heat pumps) and to have more environmental projects
- There is considerable emerging support for some kind of community hub
- A range of comments about the role and responsiveness of the Duchy
- Footfall and signage is of concern to retail business owners with a general desire of residents to have a broader range of restaurants
This is just a summary of opinion in progress so we need to hear more from you. You may want to say more about the solutions. Please email us on bigconversation@lovepoundbury.org
